Emergency Stone Repairs at St Mary Le Strand are Nearly Complete

You may have seen that some areas outside the church have been cordoned off, although the main entrance remains safe to access. As part of The Jewel in the Strand project, a series of surveys of the building have been taking place. One element of this work involved surveying the external masonry. Experts removed some loose pieces of stonework but were still a few large pieces which are too large to remove but too loose to be considered safe. All the fractured stones still in place have been pinned; five urns on the parapet which were cracked at the base have been lifted down; and the balustrade has been stabilised. The stonemasons are now undertaking final works on the balustrade. Find out more about the project here.
