Visitors have until 2nd September to discover London Heritage Quarter’s free public art trail before the iconic lion sculptures are auctioned to raise funds for charity.
London Heritage Quarter has announced that its popular ‘Pride in the Quarter’ public art trail has been extended until 2 September, giving Londoners and visitors additional time to explore the collection of 17 artist-designed lion and lioness sculptures displayed across some of the capital’s most recognisable locations.
Originally launched to celebrate a summer of football, the free trail has transformed central London with sculptures appearing near landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, St James’s Park and Victoria Tower Gardens, encouraging visitors to discover the city through art, creativity and culture.
The extension comes ahead of the launch of a public charity auction, expected to go live during the week commencing 10th August. Up to 15 of the sculptures will be available to bid on via the Indy online auction platform, offering collectors, businesses and art enthusiasts the opportunity to own a unique piece of the trail.
Proceeds from the auction will support The Passage, helping to fund services for people experiencing homelessness, while one sculpture located at The Royal Horseguards Hotel will raise funds for Rays of Sunshine, the children’s charity. Following the close of the auction, sculptures are expected to be carefully removed and transferred to their new owners in September.
The Pride in the Quarter trail remains free to visit until 2nd September, before the sculptures find new homes through the charity auction.
