New Christmas lights have been unveiled for the iconic Strand and Villiers Street, with the display paying homage to the Savoy Theatre, a landmark on Strand, which became the first public building in the world to be fully lit by electricity in 1881.
Launched in 2024, the installation features rows of enchanting, illuminated fairy figures positioned on either side of the streets, flying through the air with glowing trails of light behind them – an unmissable feature that captures the imagination of visitors of all ages.

The display consists of over 96,000 cutting-edge LEDs, each carefully selected for low energy consumption, long life, and high performance. Its frames are made entirely from recycled aluminium, while the electrical components use rubber, copper, and plastics derived from secondary raw materials, ensuring a sustainable and environmentally conscious celebration.
In addition to the dazzling lights, London Heritage Quarter is hosting fairy-themed workshops to enchant families over the Christmas holidays. Visitors can also enjoy the unmissable festive touch helping to deliver of 800 carefully curated hampers to elderly and vulnerable residents across the district, spreading holiday cheer throughout the community.
This year’s Strand and Villiers Street display is a celebration of London’s rich cultural heritage, Joseph Swan’s legacy, and modern sustainability, making it a must-see festive attraction for locals and visitors alike.
