Take a journey ‘Through the Darkness’ this October half term at London Transport Museum

Get on board for half term fun at London Transport Museum in Covent Garden with a line-up of ramily-friendly activities. For the first time, families with children aged 10+ can join the museum’s award-winning Hidden London Tours, in time for October half term. Book tickets to visit London Transport Museum or to join a Hidden London Tour via the Museum’s website.

Families visiting the award-winning London Transport Museum in Covent Garden this October half term (Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November) can journey ‘through the darkness’ to discover how London’s transport system has kept the city moving through its darkest nights and deepest tunnels.

In a line-up of family-friendly interactive activities, visitors can meet a time-travelling Victorian passenger and step into the shoes of Edwardian engineers. Kids go free to London Transport Museum! Adult tickets include free return entry for a whole year.

 

October half term activities include:

Meet the Victorians: London’s first underground passengers

Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November
Times: 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00  

Families can hear firsthand from a time travelling Victorian about what it was like to be one of the first brave passengers to travel deep underground almost 140 years ago. Their time twisting tale will take modern day travellers on a journey through the darkness on London’s first deep level Tube carriage, known as the ‘Padded Cell.’

 

Below the Surface

Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October and Friday 1 to Sunday 3 November
Times: 10:45, 11:45, 13:45, 14:45, 15:45  

In this hands-on session, families with young people aged seven and above can think like Edwardian engineers as they delve below the surface and help solve the problem of how to get passengers to safely descend onto the deepest underground platforms.

 

Build Your Own Night Bus

Thursday 31 October to Sunday 3 November            
Times: 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30  

Would-be transport designers aged five and above, together with their adults, are sure to have fun building their own night bus. This interactive activity celebrates this historic mode of transport that first took to the dark streets of London over 100 years ago, following the invention of the electric headlamp.

 

Underground Zone

Saturday 26 October to Wednesday 30 October
Times: 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30  

Little ones aged 0-5 can step, or crawl, into the sensory Underground Zone and explore lights and sounds inspired by the tunnels deep beneath the city.

 

Mapping the Tube

Saturday 26 October – Sunday 3 November
Times: All day 

Visitors big and small can test their knowledge, with ‘Mapping the Tube’ an interactive puzzle on London’s Underground Network.
