Pride in the Quarter, June to August
Inspired by the espionage history of St Ermin’s Hotel and the origins of British intelligence, this lion explores two contrasting worlds: covert meetings hidden within a luxury hotel and high-risk operations unfolding across the city. One side depicts spies exchanging information beneath Big Ben, while the other features coded transmissions, motorcycles, parachutes and surveillance against the backdrop of Tower Bridge. Beneath the paw, a world map reflects the global reach of MI6.
e.g. about the local area (some famous landmark lions), World Cup stat, etc.
Hidden behind its grand Victorian façade, St. Ermin’s Hotel has long been woven into the fascinating world of British espionage. During the Second World War, the hotel became closely linked with the British Secret Intelligence Service, with intelligence officers and operatives frequently meeting within its discreet corners and elegant public spaces. Its location near the Houses of Parliament made it an ideal setting for covert discussions and wartime planning.
Today, guests can enjoy a more leisurely side of St. Ermin’s with a selection of elegant dining experiences. Indulge in the timeless tradition of Afternoon Tea in the Tea Lounge, featuring sweet and savoury treats inspired by ingredients from the hotel’s rooftop kitchen garden. For warmer days, unwind on the Terrace with cocktails and light seasonal dishes, or enjoy early dining and pre-theatre menus at Caxton Grill.
Designed by Chita Erayanie, whose design explores London’s hidden espionage history and the tension between quiet intelligence gathering and dangerous field operations
