The London Winter Run route is designed to be both fast and enjoyable, perfect for beginners and seasoned runners alike. You’ll run past London’s famous landmarks, winding through historic streets and vibrant neighbourhoods. The run ends in the Whitehall District of London Heritage Quarter near Big Ben.

The Cancer Research Winter Run 2026 kicks off in the morning, with wave starts to ensure a smooth flow for all participants. Exact start times will be communicated to registered runners closer to the event date.
Where does the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run start?
The Cancer Research 10k London begins in a central London location with easy access to public transport. The Welcome Area is in Trafalgar Square in The Northbank District of London Heritage Quarter and runners must enter via the south side by Nelson’s Column.

- By Tube: The nearest stations are within walking distance of the Welcome Area and include Charing Cross (4 minutes walk), Embankment (6 minutes), Westminster (15 minutes), St James’s Park (16 minutes) and Green Park (18 minutes). Please note the Bag Drop is in a separate location to the Welcome Area, runners should check their Participant Guide for full information.
- By Bike: Those opting to cycle are encouraged to use local public facilities for bike storage, as bicycle parking facilities are not provided by the event organisers. Please do not block entrances or use unofficial railings to lock bikes to. Some TfL bike hire stations will be suspended during the event, mainly if they’re located directly on the run route.
- By Car: View full information on road closures here. Those travelling by car are encouraged to research multiple parking locations before setting off.
Best Places for Spectators
Cheering on the runners is half the fun! There are prime spots along the route by key landmarks and sections where the course loops back. Expect a lively atmosphere, especially near popular photo opportunities.
Cancer Research UK London Winter Run Road Closure Information
For everyone’s safety, there will be London Winter Run road closures along the course. Full road closure information can be seen here. Affected roads in London Heritage Quarter include Charing Cross Road/Shaftesbury Avenue, Northumberland Avenue/Victoria Embankment and Temple Place/Victoria Embankment.
Please note: (1) During the closure times no vehicle or bicycle access will be available on roads listed below. Side streets may also be affected – see map overleaf for local access points. (2) A number of bus diversions will be in place – please visit www.tfl.gov.uk to plan your journey. (3) Please amend your building’s emergency evacuation plan if affected during the closure period. (4) Emergency services and pedestrian access will be facilitated throughout.


Staying Safe and Secure
Safety is a top priority. The event team, marshals and first aid stations will be on hand throughout the day to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all.
To help keep the course safe and clear, listen to the marshals’ instructions throughout the day. If you’re cheering on runners, stay aware of your surroundings and be mindful in busy areas. Keep valuables out of sight, carry only what you need, and report anything suspicious to event staff or security.
Water Stations, Toilets & Support
There are no water stations along the winter 10k London route, so be sure to bring your own water. Water will be provided at the finish line. A limited number of toilets can be found around the Welcome Area on Trafalgar Square in The Northbank of London Heritage Quarter.
