The London Design Festival never disappoints, and a highlight this year is the ‘Pavilions of Wonder’ located on Strand Aldwych. A captivating installation designed by Nina Tolstrup of Studiomama, this display will blend architectural influences from Greater Palm Springs’ iconic mid-century modern style with the playful and instantly recognisable elements of the Barbie DreamHouse.
The location of the installation, Strand Aldwych, is equally noteworthy. Emerging as a cultural hub, this pedestrian-friendly space has revitalised one of London’s busiest, most congested areas. Situated in London Heritage Quarter, the Strand Aldwych area is surrounded by historic landmarks, iconic institutions, and a vibrant arts scene, making it the perfect setting for such a bold artistic statement.
The transformation of Strand Aldwych into a pedestrian space is itself part of a broader effort to reclaim urban spaces for public use, creating areas where people can gather, relax, and be inspired by their surroundings. As ‘Pavilions of Wonder’ takes shape in this new urban environment, this artistic installation is a statement about how cities can evolve and adapt, making room for creative expression and community engagement.
London Design Festival takes place from 14 to 22 September. There is so much to explore and experience this week as we celebrate the vibrant culture that defines London, and we hope to see many enjoying the artistic displays.
